The Writers-in-Conversation Series

April 22nd, 2017 @ 11:00 am (Saturday)

“That’s So Funny, It’s Sad” A conversation about the power of dark humor with award-winning authors Jim Shepard and Mira Jacob

Award winning authors Jim Shepard and Mira Jacob use dark humor to make difficult subjects not just readable—but enjoyable—to the general public. In his iconic short stories and novels, Shepard has tackled starvation, domestic terrorism, sadism and madness without ever villainizing his characters or succumbing to hagiography. In her forthcoming graphic memoir “Good Talk,” Jacob illustrates the tricky conversations about race that she’s been party to with a candor that manages to inspire both rage, and hope.

Local author, Courtney Maum will moderate this round table discussion exploring dark humor’s power to convince, empower, and disrupt.
