The year 2008 will be an exciting, celebratory one for the Town of Norfolk! On October 9th of 1758, our town was incorporated as an independent municipality, with 44 voters at the first meeting. Two hundred and fifty years later it is appropriate to commemorate this special time in history with a town-wide celebration. The Board of Selectmen established A 250th Anniversary Committee for the specific purpose of making this celebration a truly memorable one. The committee is planning festivities that will take place on Friday August 1st and Saturday August 2nd, 2008. Friday's activities feature an evening Block Party downtown, starting at 5:00 PM with Judy Busch nationally known ventriliquist act. Food booths will be stocked and ready to sate your appetite starting at 5:30 PM. There will be square dancing called by Cliff Brodeur followed by music provided by John Bazzano's band, other activities include Karl Saliter - street jester and face painting. Following the block party a Gala Fireworks display will erupt from the center of town! Saturday's events kick off at 10:30 AM with a YOUNG ARTIST RECITAL (YAR) in the Music Shed on the grounds of the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Estate featuring music from 1758. At 1:00 PM a Victorian Tea will be hosted by innkeepers Dean and Jean Marie Johnson at the Mountain View Inn. A celebratory parade will step off promptly at 4:00 PM, beginning on Maple Avenue and ending at the intersection of Mountain Road and West Side Road. The parade theme is "NORFOLK THROUGH THE YEARS".
